Access terms, for navigation and parking in the port of Dunkirk.

Main applicable terms.

To navigate in the maritime port waters a river boat has to present one of the following document with valid date:

- a community certificate
- a special Seine Maritime traffic pass
- a certificate of inspection of the Rhin boats.

These documents must be accompanied of the last dry dock control certificate.

Navigation in couple and navigation with pushed convoy are authorized only if mentionned on the circulation permit.

Navigation by reduced visibility is authorized only if the river boat is equiped of a turning speed radar.

Ships carrying liquid bulks to a specialized quay can entry only after having received the authorization of the terminal operator.

All boat carrying hazardous good must, before entry in the port, announce them to DUNKERQUE VTS, channel 73 by VHF.

Boats with passengers are admitted only if they have a pass delivered by the Harbour Master.

Navigation in the Eastern Port

> Access to the port of Dunkirk is possible only after agreement of the Mardyck's lock-keeper. 
The demand to access to the Mardyck's lock must be done by VHF radio, channel 18.

> River tankers must contact this lock before to arrive to the Mardyck's lock area.
Contact by VHF radio, channel 18 or phone: +33(0)3 28 28 76 95.

> Before leaving a river lock or a quay, bargemen must contact  "Dunkerque VTS" on channel VHF 73 ; they will receive instructions and must stay in contact with VHF, channel 73, all along their stay in the port.

> Traffic is managed on the right side in channels and basins. Handling near bridges and sluice and at the entry of basins must be indicated following the regular sound signs in place.

> Crew to navigate in the port of Dunkirk must be composed of a minimum of 2 persons.

 

Demurrage in the Eastern Port

> No parking is allowed, except in case of commercial traffic.

> Ships must leave the port or can stay along the quay Freycinet 2. 

> Ships which have not finished their operations on the day evening or which operate at 6.00 a.m. the day after can be authorized to stay close to the handling place, but only if they have the agreement of "Dunkerque VTS" VHF channel 73.

Navigation in the Western Port

> Before leave the lock "Ecluse des Dunes" to access to the Western Port or before to leave their quay, bargement must contact "Dunkerque VTS" on channel VHF 73 where they will receive their instructions.

> Attention of Bargement is drawn on rapid handling with swirl of the ferries, so they must navigate with many precautions in the Western Port basins.

 

Demurrage in the Western Port

> Rules are the same as the one for the Eastern Port.

> Attention of Bargemen in drawn on the Western Port which is a tidal port with an important tidal range which can be up to 7 meters.

> Crew must stay on board all along the stay in the Western Port.

 

Speed limit

Speed is limited to:
-   8 knots (15 km / h) in the Eastern Port area
- 10 knots (18 km / h) in the Western Port area
-   6 knots (11 km / h) in the "Canal des Dunes"
